Goof: Mrs. Dabney says that her calico cat, Kaboodle, is male. A cat gender is decided by its chromosomes while in utero (XX for girls and XY for boys). In order to have the calico coloring, cats have to have two X chromosomes that carry the same allele (Xo and Xb). Since the Xo/Xb chromosomes override the XY chromosomes, 99.9% of calico cats are female. Male calicos are usually stillborn, but if they do survive; they are kept by the breeder due to possible health problems in the future.
