It involved a tophat. I was around 11 or so. Dave Marshall's former wife, Grace, had made a lovely spread of food suitable for people over 35 and I was talked into dressing up as a punk-rocker which turned, sadly, into a rather odd looking androgynous parakeet. I'm pretty certain I wanted to dress up as a pirate, but you tend to alter details as you get older, so don't hold me to it. "Now you see them ... " Them, being 2 pigeons. With a waft of his hand flourished with an orange silk scarf the magician hypnotized us, well, with his overall creepiness. "Now you don't!" Sadly, we did. The pigeons cooed. Dulci, Chris, Shane, and jason tumbled up our stairs on another one of those blazing summer days in July, happily. Unbeknownst to them, they would be subjected to thousands of watts of tungsten light in a tiny room with no air conditioning. We did provide water and paper towels for them to wipe off the brow sweat. This band came highly recommended and once directed to their myspace page I couldn't help but replay the songs over and over and over again. They're magical. They make your heart lighter and lifted the accumulated stress from months of editing video, shooting commercials, and staying up far too late, far too often. It was quite a reward. We're happy to announce that this great band will be playing on the opening night, Oct. 1st, of the first annual Monkeywhale Festival alongside Holy Ghost Tent Revival and Eating the Invaders. Praise for Now You See Them: "Quirky-cute trio Now You See Them (folk-pop) landed a Bele Chere stage slot by beating out the competition in ?Last Band Standing,? an online contest (co-sponsored by WNC Magazine,)where Asheville music fans could vote for their favorite artists. Now You See Them burst onto the local scene just a year ago, playing streets and stages and honing their bubbly, irony-tinged and endlessly-hooky tunes. According to one music industry veteran, the sky?s the limit for this up-and-coming act." -- mountain xpressmoreless
