Just like in the U.S., it was a mass shooting that prompted calls for gun reform in Australia. In 1996 a gunman opened fire at a tourist area killing 35 people and injuring dozens more. This prompted a call for sweeping change to the gun laws and the handing over of hundreds of thousands of weapons. There hasn't been a mass shooting since.moreless
