    • In this exclusive SoundWorks Collection profile we talk with Sound Designer Tom Myers of Skywalker Sound about his work on Pixar Animation's latest film, Monster University. Take a trip back in time to when star Monsters, Inc. employees Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (voice of John Goodman) were just two promising young students at Monsters University in this frightfully fun Disney/Pixar prequel. Long before they were lurking in closets for a living, Mike and Sulley were just two Scaring majors at Monsters University, dreaming of the day they would make children shriek in terror. When their heated competition to be the most fearsome in their class gets out of hand, however, Mike and Sulley find themselves ejected from the prestigious Scare Program, and they are forced to seek the aid of their oddball friends in order to get their education back on track. Dan Scanlon (Tracy) takes the directorial reigns for this prequel featuring additional vocal contributions by Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, and Julia Sweeney. Montaño, supervising sound editor and designer Eric Norris, supervising sound editor and designer Scott Hecker, and dialogue supervisor Kira Roessler. In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves. • The Dolby PRM-4200 has been at the center of the visual effects (VFX) production, having been used for color-critical VFX reviews and pre-visualization work. VFX producer Ron Ames reports, "The Dolby monitor allows us to see more color-accurate and higher-quality images than ever before right in our workspace. We've been able to dramatically streamline our shot-review process, as we have confidence that the images we're seeing on the Dolby monitor will precisely match what we see on the big screen." The Dolby Professional Reference Monitor also ensures that all the incredible detail and rich colors captured by cinematographer Daniel Mindel are accurately represented onscreen. The Dolby Professional Reference Monitor PRM-4200 offers a new standard for critical viewing applications. It renders true black levels, highly accurate dark detail, and the most precise colors at all luminance levels and in all formats. The backlight is an array of red, green, and blue LEDs that are modulated individually on a frame-by-frame basis to provide full accuracy of blacks, color, and grayscale. The LCD panel is also modulated in real time as part of the dual-modulation process. It is the first monitor to accurately display the full latitude of today's high-end digital cameras.moreless

    • In this exclusive SoundWorks Collection sound profile we talk with Academy Award winning Director Brian Helgeland about the sound and music of his new film "42". Also featured are Helgeland's behind-the-scenes collaborators include Composer Mark Isham, Re-recording Mixer Jeff Haboush, Re-recording Mixer Chris Carpenter, and Supervising Sound Editor Jon Johnson. Hero is a word we hear often in sports, but heroism is not always about achievements on the field of play. "42" tells the story of two men—the great Jackie Robinson and legendary Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey—whose brave stand against prejudice forever changed the world by changing the game of baseball. In 1946, Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) put himself at the forefront of history when he signed Jackie Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) to the team, breaking Major League Baseball's infamous color line. But the deal also put both Robinson and Rickey in the firing line of the public, the press and even other players. Facing unabashed racism from every side, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind, knowing that any incident could destroy his and Rickey's hopes. Instead, Number 42 let his talent on the field do the talking—ultimately winning over fans and his teammates, silencing his critics, and paving the way for others to follow. In 1997, Major League Baseball retired the number 42 for all teams, making it the first number in sports to be universally retired. The only exception is April 15th—Jackie Robinson Day—commemorating the date of his first game as a Brooklyn Dodger. On that day alone, players from every team proudly wear Number 42 to honor the man who altered the course of history.
