61 Members of Single Iowa Family Suffer from Rare Vision Disease
AIRED:
All 61 members of an Iowa family have the same rare disease. “CBS This Morning” reports autosomal dominant neovascular inflammatory vitreoretinopathy slowly takes away their vision. The father of the family, Jerry Jackson, 67, has been blind for the past 23 years. Out of the 100 cases of such disease in the U.S., 61 of those come from him and his extended family. The chances for one of Jerry’s family members having the hereditary disease is 50-50 because it’s passed down from just one parent.moreless
