Someone’s Valentine’s Day got a little too hot as a fire broke out in a six-story apartment building in the East Village. Residents of the neighboring Second Street dorm were herded into the streets as fire engines roared down a gridlocked Second Avenue, closed from East 4th Street down to Houston. Reports of smoke billowing into dorm rooms filtered around the bleary-eyed crowd watching the action from outside the normally calm Anyway Café. This video was taken around 12:30AM, as the fire escalated from a second to a third alarm. Washington Square News reports that 138 firefighters were on the scene. From Explosions in the Sky to literal explosions, this has been an eventful Valentine’s Day for the NYU community. Video and article by Jason Lestermoreless
