One in 8 Million

Show Summary

One in 8 Million seeks to capture the spirit of New York by sharing the stories of the citizens that live there. Through pictures and sound, this web show shows their hopes, dreams and problems as they make their way through life in the city. In one episode, Joseph Cotton describes how he is more than just a grandfather; he is a teacher, caretaker and constant support for his daughter's four children. Paul Bockwoldt explains how he stepped outside of his comfort zone to become closer to his brother, joining a gay rugby team as a way of connecting with him. Mary Wong Lee reminisces about the adoption of her daughter, Mebrat, who was malnourished and turned out to be three years older than her size and weight indicated. One in 8 Million, produced by the New York Times, also features stories from the perspective of a teenage mother, a rookie detective, an ex-bank robber and a singing waitress.
