Sexual Intercourse: American Style was a web series created by Mitch Magee and aired on Channel 101: NY. An early hit for the web-based channel, there are seven episodes, each a few minutes long, presented like comedy sketches, plus a "season finale" special. Despite the evocative name, there is no nudity, only some crude language that some viewers may find objectionable. The series focuses on two couples: Clark (Will Hines), Beth (Eliza Skinner), Fran (Julie Klausner), and Tom (Matthieu Cornillon), although none really stand out from the others. There are also several one-time characters. The overall theme is of dark comedy, often starting with something seemingly straightforward and innocent, and then completely changing direction. For example, one episode features the four main characters covered in balloons, eager to pop them one by one to show their nakedness underneath, only to begin mourning the meaninglessness of life. Fans of Kids in the Hall and Human Giant should find this series to their liking. The series was produced by Upright Citizens Brigade.moreless

The LXD, short for the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, is a web series from director John M. Chu about a group of dancers who also serve as a justice league of superheroes, even without traditional supernatural powers. Instead, they possess extraordinary powers of dance, and a mysterious outfit known as the LXD recruits them. There is also the hint of evil in the form of a shadow woven throughout the episodes, suggesting another entity that uses supernatural powers of dance in a bad way. As the story unfolds, it is told not just through dialogue but through extraordinary dance sequences that leave no question about why these dancer's abilities can turn them into superheroes. The actors on the show are relatively unknown except for their experience in the dance and choreography communities, with the notable exception of Harry Shum Jr., who stars as choir member Mike Chang on the hit Fox show Glee. The core group of the show's main characters has done performances opening for the Glee tour, on So You Think You Can Dance, and at The Oscars.moreless

    Strike TV (ended 1996)
Medical drama set in Toronto at the Kingsview Family Clinic. Nadia Capone played the level headed chief doctor; Albert Schultz the unctuous callous doc Joseph Ziegler the crusader Anna Pappas the resident killed off at the beginning of the 2nd season and Jovanni Sy the good hearted doc who sometimes had trouble relating to people. Eve Harris played the administrator. Jennifer Dale was added in the 2nd season as the somewhat manipulative head of the clinic. Elizabeth Sheppard played R.N. Judy Owens Janne Mortil played the experienced receptionist michelle. This TV series premiered at the same time the U.S. unleashed two big-budget, critically acclaimed medical series, "Chicago Hope" and "E.R." Ironically, CBC's earlier hit Street Legal (which featured some of the same producers) aired the same year as "L.A. Law". Side Effects, though, faired less well in the comparison. The stories were often flaccid, having trouble stirring up the emotion needed, with largely tepid characters. The cast was O.K., with the actors growing into their parts, but none of them were (quite) strong enough, or charismatic enough, to electrify things...even an ensemble drama needs one or two interesting actors to anchor things. Still it evolved into a watchable, if unriveting, series. Created by Brenda Greenberg and Guy Mullally. Two seasons of hour long episodes on the CBC.moreless

Seattle Grace: On Call is a documentary-styled webisode series taking place within the world of Grey's Anatomy that takes a deeper look at the lives of the doctors beyond the typical series. While the series focuses on the doctors of the likes of Dr. Derek Sheppard and Dr. Meredith Grey in the halls of the beloved yet busy Seattle Grace Hospital, Seattle Grace: On Call highlights some of the lesser-known yet equally dramatic interns as they lose their white coats and chill at Joe's Bar. Megan (Molly Kidder) had lost her job in the merger with Seattle Grace and Mercy West but it seems her role in making waves hasn't disappeared when her affair with a surgical intern-now husband, Steve (Mark Saul), resulted in a pregnancy of unknown paternity and a rather scored ex-boyfriend, Pierce (Joseph Williamson). For Reed (Nora Zehetner) and Charles (Robert Baker), their relationship is a bit on edge as Reed pines after Dr. Karev while Charles pines after her. Sometimes, the drama just doesn't end after primetime.moreless

The mini webisodes are only a few minutes long, but in a few of them we can follow the history of killers, their motivation and how Dexter discovers them. He then meticulously plans how he will kill them, making sure he won't be caught. His methods and locations of murder are always specific to his victims and the crimes they have committed. Early Cuts shows us Dexter's practice runs, before the drama of the show and familiarizes us with Dexter's own brand of justice before he exercised it on villains like the ice truck killer.moreless

    Shoetube (ended 2003)
Welcome to the Shop Til' You Drop guide at TV.com. What do you get when you combine The Price is Right with Beat the Clock? A hybrid game show called Shop Til' You Drop, a durable game show where contestants compete in stunts and are tested on their consumer knowledge. From 1991 to 2003, STYD was situated in a two-tiered California shopping mall (not unlike the Mall of America); 2003 and later in a mega-store (think Sam's Club or Wal-Mart). Two teams of male-female couples (it could also be two teams of brothers or sisters, too) competed. Each team plays two rounds of games, which centered on pricing items (not unlike The Price is Right), celebrity trivia or performing a silly stunt. Before each round, the host (or his sidekick) described the first stunt to one of the teams, and they decided who would play it. Successfully completing a stunt earns the team points (100 in Round 1, 200 in Round 2) and the right to select a prize from one of the stores in the mall (or, in later episodes, from one of the store's departments). One of the prizes hid the "Shopper's Special," which if selected earned the team a bonus prize (always a trip). Round 3 was the "Shopper's Challenge," a 90-second speed round of questions about entertainment and shopping. Each team member alternated answering questions (the men and then the women). Correct answers were worth 50 points. The team with the highest score after three rounds advanced to the bonus round. The bonus round was a shopping-spree type round. One of the team members was the shopper (usually but not always the female) while the male half was the runner. One at a time, the team opened one of six packages on a table. The shopper decided whether to keep the gift or beckon the runner to exchange it. If they wanted to exchange the item, the runner scurried like the dickens to one of the stores (or departments in the superstore episodes) and exchange it for what the team hoped was a better gift. In either case, the runner had to take the item to a table on one side of the set and hit a plunger before the shopper could open another box. After all six boxes were kept or exchanged, or after the 90-second time limit expired, the host announced the values of each prize, one by one. The team kept whatever they collected, but if the prizes' value was $2,500 or more ($1,000 in 1991-1992), the couple won a vacation. For the first 12 years STYD was on (and off) the air, Pat Finn was the host, with Dee Baker his wacky sidekick. When the series returned in 2003 (with the new superstore setup), J.D. Roberto was the host and Don Preiss did the annoucing.
