Purple States

Show Summary

Purple States is a documentary series that joins five very different people, who have at least one thing in common, that they live in early primary and caucus states. The series aims to find out what issues were on ordinary citizens minds in 2008, sending the five people on the campaign trail to bring up close and personal coverage of the candidates. We join Elizabeth, a 23-year-old Iowa resident and florist; Bert, a New England libertarian who was laid off from his manufacturing job; 33-year-old South Carolina mother and teacher Tamara; gun-toting Florida art gallery owner with Cuban and Puerto Rican roots Tanya; and Alex, a Californian who lives with his Mexican-American son-in-law and grandchildren. The five set out on the trail to ask questions that the public still are looking for answers to. The issues of the next election mirror those of the last, jobs, health care, environment and immigration, and Purple States tries to see where we were and where we have gone since 2008, to try to see what is to come.
