On today's episode: Microsoft announces the Surface, but it's the spam research that's got our attention. Also, a service called MightyText hopes to bring iMessage love to Android users. Finally, that healthy salad you THOUGHT you ate might not have been so healthy after all... TRANSCRIPT: Microsoft has big news this week - but it's not what you think. Also, Android users now have a chat service like Apple's iMessage. And finally, that healthy salad you had for lunch might not be as healthy as you think it was. I'm James Papadopoulos and techspank starts now. ==== OPEN ==== This week microsoft unveiled some important news. And no, it's not the surface - but that raises the question, which surface are you getting? The Microsoft Surface for Windows RT or the Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 Pro…? Really Microsoft? How can you make something so confusing before it even comes out? Anyway… the news I'M talking about is actually from Microsoft's research department. And it has to do with SPAM. The question of the day?: Why are those scam emails so so SO stupid? Why is it ALWAYS a nigerian prince who needs us to send money? Well microsoft's Cormac Herley thinks he has an answer. When the spam email is as insanely stupid as possible, it weeds out the people who might have any sort of smarts, until what's left are only the dumbest possible victims. And that means they might make out like bandits. If the email actually sounded like it could be true to intelligent people, those spammers might have to deal with a flood of… shall we say...
