The Kentucky Derby

Show Summary

The Kentucky Derby is the most famous event in American horse racing, taking place at the picturesque Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Every year, the Kentucky Derby has the highest attendance of any horse racing event, as spectators come from all over the world to watch three-year-old Thoroughbred horses run in what is often called The Most Exciting Two Minute In Sports. The race has been an American mainstay since its inauguration in 1875. The horses run one and a quarter miles, or 10 furlongs, for a first-place prize of $1,425,000 and the coveted rose blanket. Not only a sporting event, the Kentucky Derby is an exhibition of Southern culture and style. On Millionaire's Row, the expensive box seats above the track, the wealthy and well-connected showcase country fashions with men in seersucker suits and women in vibrant outfits with lavish accessories. The Kentucky Derby produces videos every year to document the race and the events surrounding it, so fans at home can fix themselves a mint julep and enjoy this sporting classic.
