Over forty years in the game, bassist Stanley Clarke is best known for his innovative electric bass playing as well as him composing television and film scores. But on his latest self-titled disc "The Stanley Clarke Band featuring Hiromi," Clarke continues to reach out musically both in compositions and his bass playing.He's been on the cusp of innovation throughout his musical career. Fans have seen and heard Clarke evolve in groups like Return to Forever, his partnership with George Duke, and his endless resume of television and film scores he's composed from "Boyz N The Hood" to "Passenger 57" to the hit series "Lincoln Heights." Stanley's latest disc, "The Stanley Clarke Band featuring Hiromi," is his second recording with the premier pianist. It features longtime drummer Ronald Bruner, Jr. and keyboardist Ruslan Sirota. I caught up with Stanley at the Blue Note in New York and we talked about the latest disc and reuniting Hiromi.Drummer and longtime friend Lenny White co-produced this new CD.Hiromi Uehara is one of the freshest and innovative pianists in jazz music. She has a huge following in her native country of Japan and has a playing style that's different from other pianists on the scene.
