Tiny Desk Concerts

Show Summary

Tiny Desk Concerts is a feature of the NPR (National Public Radio) show called "All Songs Considered," a spinoff of the popular show "All Things Considered." The musical spinoff is the creation of the host and director of the original NPR show, Bob Boilen, who has shared his love of music with listeners of "All Things Considered" for decades. Over time, Boilen, who often conducted and recorded casual and friendly interviews with musicians while sitting at his small desk in the cramped NPR Music room, organically came to the practice of asking them to give a little performance live while standing there. Inspired, surely, by Bob's honest and open love of their music, artists commonly agree to take out their instruments, and with knees bumping Bob's desk and their back brushing the bookshelves behind them, they perform the most incredible impromptu and magically intimate mini-concerts, weaving their spirits into music for a singular, solitary audience of Bob alone, and through his recordings the entranced audience of his NPR show. Now the recordings are collected and arranged together in the NPR site pages devoted to them, listed as Bob's famous Tiny Desk concerts.
