Man Framed by 'Mafia Cop' Gets $9.9M Settlement For Wrongful Conviction
AIRED:
Katie Couric featured the story of a former New York City postal worker who was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1986 and spent 19 years in prison for a crime he never committed. It was later found that Barry Gibbs was set up by Louis Eppolito, who became known as the “Mafia Cop”. Gibbs was released from prison in 2005. Gibbs sued the city, and won $9.9 million, the largest personal settlement in New York City history. Gibbs is now engaged to a woman he’s known since childhood.moreless
