Peter Murphy was the lead vocalist for Bauhaus, an English post-punk band considered the founders of goth rock. In 1978, Murphy, Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins formed the band Bauhaus 1919. Their debut single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead," was released in 1979 (having dropped 1919 from their name) and remained on the British independent charts for two years. Their debut full-length album, In The Flat Field, was released in October 1980 on 4AD. The band broke up not long after the release of their fourth album, Burning From the Inside (Beggars Banquet, 1983), during which Murphy wasn't able to participate much in the recording process due to illness. After the break up Ash, J, and Haskins formed Love and Rockets and Murphy pursued a solo career. Murphy released his first solo album, Should the World Fail to Fall Apart (Beggars Banquet), in 1986. After several solo Peter Murphy albums and Love and Rockets albums, the four reunited as Bauhaus for a 1998 tour, again in 2005 for a co-headlining tour with Nine Inch Nails, and released a final album in 2008 album, Go Away White. On June 7, 2011 Murphy released Ninth (Nettwork), his first solo album in seven years and the first since the permanent dissolution of Bauhaus in 2009.moreless
