Containing much previously unseen footage from around the world, each hour long documentary tells the story of 20th century flight as seen through the eyes of those who were boys at the time of the Wright brothers memorable first flight - boys who grew into the men who built world aviation. For some, escape from the Bolshevik revolution was not an option. Their patriotism shined through even in the darkest of hours. Andre Nikoliavich Tupolev was one. For the love of his Motherland he established Russian aviation and developed some of the finest of Soviet heavy aircraft. Even through his imprisonment in the Stalin work camps of the late 30's and 40's, Tupolev's dream never faltered as he achieved a long line of technologically advanced aircraft. After his release from prison at the beginning of the cold war, his development of strategic bombers was second to none. Although suppressed in the west, he was later to achieve a position in the history books as the first to attain supersonic passenger flight capability - an achievement which lives on into the 21st century with new cooperation was NASA and the America SST development program.moreless
