Episode Summary

EDIT
Filmed in Russia, the United States, Japan, China, Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Great Britain and Sweden, Wings Over the World pulls together a series of mammoth proportions. Containing much previously unseen footage from around the world, each hour long documentary tells the story of 20th century flight as seen through the eyes of those who were boys at the time of the Wright brothers memorable first flight - boys who grew into the men who built world aviation. The Boeing saga began when William Boeing dismantled a seaplane to study its construction. His company quickly rose to the forefront of heavy aircraft production, spurred on by the outbreak of World War I less than a year after production began. America declared war on Germany and gave Boeing its first large seaplane order. Boeing continued to expand and its heavy bombers become the mainstay of the Allied forces during World War II. Unlike many aviation companies Boeing survived the transition to peacetime, adapting its technology to large passenger volume transport to become, by the 1990's the almost undisputed world leader.moreless
