At the very start of the last Lewis to air (i.e.before May 8th.) Hathaway was heard, in court, to "Affirm" that he would tell "the truth nothing but the truth etc...) Christians, and Hathaway was once a candidate for the priesthood, would surely have "Sworn by Almighty God to tell the truth..."

    Why?

The whole "Do you *insert oath here* has changed so much over the years that it's usually up to the judge or the district where the case is being heard. You might get a better answer to this question in the Lewis Forum since I don't know that much about the show. I hope this helps and Welcome to TV.Com.
