Wes Mannion is best known from the series "the crocodile hunter" as Steve Irwin's best mate, they met in the mid 80'tis when Wes and his dad came to the reptile park (now Australia zoo) looking for work. Wes soon became close to the Irwin family and he was looked upon as there little brother. Wes and Steve would spend every minute they had feeding the crocodiles at the zoo, or catching them in the wild. During Steve's growing success with "the crocodile hunter" show, Wes would often star in the show as Steve's right hand, if Terri wasn't able to be there, Wes was the man Steve always counted on.

Wes has worked as senior staff at Australia zoo for several years, and since Steve Irwin's tragic death on September 4th 2006, Wes has acted as chief of Australia zoo. As I watched the memorial service for Steve Irwin, my heart went out to his lovely family.

But my heart broke for Wes. He has known Steve since he was 14 years old; the two had lived, breathed, laughed and cried together. You could not have found two people more close if they had been siblings. Steve would refer to Wes as his �BEST MATE�, but they were more like brothers Wes has stepped up again for the Irwin family and he has taken on more responsibilities for Australia Zoo, where he is/was the Zoo Director.

Wes has a young family (wife Jodie and son Riley). I can see another Steve/Wes friendship between these two boys Bob Jr/Riley. Wes has always had a love of animals and when asked which are his favourites? He has replied with a massive smile �SNAKES�, I grew up in the Far East and my back garden was a jungle. I had several snakes as pets, but I have a special place in my heart for the Croc�s of Australia Zoo.

Wes is a rare person and this world is a better place for knowing him. He is the type of person people aspire to be and hopefully he will be aloud to carry on his good work for the Zoo and the Irwin family.
