GENE BEENE ON BOTH CLASSIC AND SYNDIE WML: On July 8, 2006, during GSN's 2006 month-long BASEBALL TRIBUTE, a color syndicated version of "What's My Line?" was aired featuring Willie Mays as the mystery guest. The host was Wally Bruner and the episode was originally taped on August 20, 1968. One of the contestants was Gene Beene, the same man who appeared on this classic 1960 episode. After Gene's syndicated game, a short film clip of him being blown up in a box was shown. As Gene was leaving the syndicated stage, he whispered something into panelists Arlene Francis' ear. - Suzanne (2006) (edit)
This was a fairly successful night for the panel as they managed, more or less, to go "three for four" this evening. In the first game, Bennett correctly figured out that the contestant was a nurse. When John asked what was so special about her employment, Bennett correctly said she was the nurse for then president-elect John F. Kennedy’s newborn son. In the second game, the panel was stumped, but just barely. Dorothy figured out that Mr. Beene had something to do with explosives, but the panel never did figure out that he was a "human bomb." In the mystery guest round, Bennett correctly identified actress Nancy Kwan. Miss Kwan was on the show to promote the 1960 motion picture version of the very successful Broadway play "The World of Suzie Wong." During the post-game chat, Miss Kwan was asked how she got the role. She explained that France Nuyen, who originated the role on Broadway, was originally supposed to reprise the role for the film. However, when Miss Nuyen became ill, Kwan took over. In the final game, Dorothy was given credit for correctly guessing that the contestant made hairpieces or toupees. However, time had just run out and John flipped over all the cards. - Sargebri (2005)

John F. Kennedy, Jr. was perhaps the most famous little boy in the world. This episode of WML was broadcast just after his November 25, 1960 birth, just a few months before the presidential inauguration of his father. However, it was his action during his father’s funeral in 1963 that would make him a cultural icon. As the carriage carrying his father’s casket passed by, John-John ran to the front of the crowd and saluted his father in one of the most emotional moments in history. Sadly, JFK Jr. would be killed in 1999 when the private plane he was piloting crashed into the ocean. Also killed were his wife Carolyn Bessette and her sister Lauren Bessette, while en route to Hyannis Port to attend the wedding of his cousin Rory Kennedy, the daughter of his uncle Bobby Kennedy. - Sargebri (2005)

Interestingly, guest panelist Lord Boothby asked mystery guest Nancy Kwan if she ever sang, which she correctly answered yes. However, the next year, she would perform in the 1961 film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical "Flower Drum Song." However, Miss Kwan didn't do any of her own singing in the film. Her voice was dubbed by B.J. Baker in much the same way that Audrey Hepburn and many other actresses were dubbed by noted voice artist Marni Nixon. - Sargebri (2005) (edit)
FLIP REPORT: Dorothy guessed the occupation of the final challenger after John allowed some guesses because they were running out of time. John flipped all the cards at four down and six to go. - agent_0042 (edit)
(1) As befitting his status, Lord Boothby's nameplate on the panel desk reads as "LORD BOOTHBY."
(2) "ENTER AND SIGN IN" WATCH: For tonight's show, John uses the "Enter and sign in" introductory phrase for all contestants including the mystery guest. The last time he did so was in EPISODE #536. - W-B (edit)
Arlene wore a "diamond" princess tiara on her head, with a little "star" design on the side. - fiveninegal (edit)
