Christmas time arrives in Doyley Woods and everyone is in a festive mood, even Evil Edna. But when Santa doesn't appear Arthur and Mavis think Edna has done something to him.
A childrens animated show by Nick Spargo, and voiced by Kenneth Williams. Willo the Wisp was about the inhabitants of Doyley Woods and the strange events that occurred to them on a regular basis.
Watch one episode because it's only 5 minutes ling and they are fun. hide show
Willo the wisp is a silly cartoon that can't help make you laugh. Some of the stories are strange, but you can do anything when you are writing a story based in fantasy and fiction. Kenneth Williams supplies all the voices (or is it voice?) as he narrates and uses different accents for each character. I personally like the fairy Mavis, and Arthur the caterpillar best, but Edna the evil TV is a good villain. When I watch episodes i cant understand why the wisp never joins in, nor does he every communicate with the other wood folk, he just tells the story and is more like an all knowing, all seeing, hidden entity.
This was a fantastic little series. hide show
When 'Willo the Wisp' ran at teatimes in the early 1980s, BBC television was a much better place - these charming and waspish five-minute cartoons were enhanced by the delightfully fruity tones of the incomparable Kenneth Williams telling the tale.
What it was about escapes me now but I do remember Willo was a ghost and there was a grouchy television set named Evil Edna - fabulous cartoon work on all fronts. I know the series was revived with James Dreyfus narrating but I can't imagine it would have worked. Pure class - one of the top ten children's TV programmes of all time.
