CBC is Canada's national broadcaster and was the network that originally aired the series. CBC can be seen in some U.S. cities close to the Canadian border. less «

  Frequently Asked Questions about "Wind at My Back" When and why did the series end? The fifth and final season of Wind at My Back was filmed in late summer of 1999, but the CBC did not air the season until a year later, in the fall of 2000. Towards the end of 2000, it was announced without warning that the fifth season would be Wind at My Back's last. It is unclear why no steps were taken towards a sixth season even though the fifth season finale was not intended to serve as a series finale. The last episode of the show aired on CBC on April 1, 2001, and fans were dismayed the show concluded without a proper ending. According to Sullivan Entertainment, it was CBC's decision to end the series. Previously, they had pointed to difficulties in gaining funding from Telefilm Canada, which the funding agency denied. Meanwhile, the CBC reported in 2001 that Kevin Sullivan had intended the fifth season to be the show's last, but this contradicted what Kevin Sullivan himself stated in a newspaper interview. What is "A Wind at My Back Christmas"? "A Wind at My Back Christmas" is a reunion made after the series ended. It aired on CBC in December 2001. The movie has not aired in the U.S., but it is available on VHS/DVD (check the Sullivan Boutique or Amazon.ca). Each season has 13 episodes, which are spread over 4 double-sided disks. The extras are very limited, but the DVDs are a worthwhile purchase as most of these episodes have never been available for sale. Is the CBC airing reruns of the series? CBC has recently resumed airing reruns on weekday afternoons at 1:00pm after several years of no reruns. The CBC had previously stated that the show would no longer be seen on the network as their rights to the series have expired. At the time of that statement several years ago, they had said Sullivan Entertainment was finding another network to air reruns of the series, but this has not happened. Let the CBC know how great it is that they are airing reruns again! Can the series be seen in the U.S.? Unfortunately, "Wind at My Back" is currently not airing on any U.S. network. The rights to air Wind at My Back in the U.S. was originally held by Encore WAM!. In early 2001, Hallmark Channel (known as Odyssey Network at the time) acquired the rights to the series. Season 5 aired for the first (and only) time in the U.S. on Hallmark Channel in late August and early September of 2001.   The series follows the members of the Bailey family as they live through a time period marked by difficulty and hardship, as well as hope. The show is supported by a strong ensemble of characters. In the series premiere, we are introduced to the strong-willed Honey Bailey, whose family is torn apart by tragedy and her mother-in-law May Bailey. Through the course of the series, the characters develop and exhibit growth, from the domineering May Bailey to Honey's meek, unmarried sister-in-law Grace Bailey.
  
  "Wind at My Back" perfectly balances drama with light comedy. By balancing the emotionally affecting moments with lighter and more humorous situations, it is a show that the entire family can watch together.
  
  Beautifully filmed with period sets and costumes, "Wind at My Back" transports you back in time, incorporating into the storylines the cultural fads of the 1930's, from dance marathons to radio talent shows to swing music. Sometimes gritty and at other times romanticized, the show is a thoroughly enjoyable drama about the importance of family.
