The Tylers evaluate their relationships as Karen and Darren start to prepare for their wedding anniversary. Meanwhile, Jaye, Sharon, mouth-breather, and the local security guard get held hostage at Wonderfalls, by a bank robber on the run.
Jaye, Sharon and Mahandra visit a nearby Indian reservation, where the spirit of a dead grandmother sends all three of them on a new path towards easing Jaye's burden. Aaron and Jaye continue on this path and hilarity ensues.
As Eric and Heidi's marriage tries to get back on track, Jaye spirals wildly out of control as the muses convince her that she must "Save Him From Her", save him from the fact that someone is going to murder him. To deal with things, she visits the family's therapist.
Heidi, Eric's wife, shows up and wreaks havoc on his relationship with Jaye. Meanwhile, fed up with the muses, Jaye convinces her brother to take all the talking animals from her. Jaye's mom goes out on a date and everything comes to a head.
Jaye and Eric, now officially dating delve a little deeper into their relationships. But Jaye, under the influence of the muses, snaps a photo of 2 birds which sets in motion a bird napping, a brother and best friend challenging, Jaye questioning her relationship with Eric and a zoologist and janitor's relationship.
As Jaye and Eric verbally spar over their relationship, or more precisely, lack of one, they encounter and help a Russian mail order bride, Katya, and Peter the 12 year old that ordered her.
Jaye performs an unethical act to her neighbor, proposed by the animals, of hiding her checks. She also continues to make her photo album of her neighbor "Fat Pat" grow. Ultimately, the awful acts improves the lives of a few of her neighbors.
An old celebrity, Millie Markus, drops into town to reminisce about being the first woman to ride in a barrel over the falls and survive. Only, she wasn't. Her friend, Vivian, the real one who went over the falls, calls her bluff.
When Jaye's brother sees her talking to inanimate objects, he begins to question her state of mind; the animals help Jaye reunite her family with the housekeeper who was deported thanks to Sharon. Meanwhile, while trying to get the maid back, Jaye finds herself in legal trouble.
Jaye's father ends up in the hospital after she helps him collect garbage. The muses tell her to "get off of her ass" and when she finally listens, things work out the way they should.
Jaye and Eric find a woman in the Barrel, who they discover is a nun that is trying to leave her abbey. A priest comes looking for her to try to convince her to come back, but isn't very successful in doing so. Jaye naturally gets wrapped up in it, and taking instructions from the animals, eventually helps the two.
While working another shift, Jaye is approached by a young girl who, after an introduction, tells her that she stole her wallet. As she gives it back to her, Jaye notices that she has a stuttering problem and a stuffed chameleon tells her to "get her words out". This eventually leads to the girl - nicknamed Binky- getting a job at Wonderfalls, with Jaye as her mentor. Unfortunately, Binky starts to take the mentor idea too seriously and seemingly takes Jaye's identity: Her job, her friends, her family, her looks, and her personality. With the animals still telling her to "get her words out", Jaye decides to take matters into her own hands.
When Jaye Tyler is convinced by a waxed lion to chase after a shiny quarter, she finds herself returning a lost purse to a lady (who instead of thanking her, punches her in the face), meeting an attractive and sweet bartender named Eric, introducing her sister, Sharon, to the newly divorced bachelor delivery man, and later discovering her sister's sexuality.
The pilot was the episode "Wax Lion," only not so professionally done. Some of the scenes from the first episode, "Wax Lion," were taken from the pilot.
