The Young and the Restless revolves around the rivalries, romances, hopes and fears of the residents of the fictional Midwestern metropolis, Genoa City. The lives and loves of a wide variety of characters mingle through the generations, dominated by the Newman, Abbott and Winters families. When the show premiered in 1973, it revolutionized the daytime drama. It continues to set the standard with strong characters, socially conscious storylines, romance and sensuality.

The Young and the Restless premiered on March 26, 1973, and was originally a 30 minute show. It was not until January 1980 that the show had become a one hour show like it is today. The show has ran for years at 12:30 PM on the east coast, and at 11:00 AM on the west coast.

Over the years, many things have happened, and there have been many twisted story lines, many stolen husbands, and many people dead. It has also featured character cross-overs with another CBS soap, The Bold and the Beautiful. These include the psychotic Sheila Carter, who began on The Young and the Restless and shown her more psychotic side on The Bold and the Beautiful. The same goes for Lauren Fenmore, who also can be seen on The Bold and the Beautiful occasionally.

The Young and the Restless is not like other soaps which convey a surreal way of life. This show, however, is based on the lives of people in a small town called Genoa City, Wisconsin, where the money is plentiful and so are the women. Many times, we wish that we could live in that small, mid-western town, just to see how life would really be like. Sometimes, we put our own problems aside and worry about what will happen next on the show. However, we're very fortunate not to have a world like they do on any soap!

The theme song was written by Barry DeVorzon and Perry Botkin, and originally entitled Cotton's Theme from the film Bless the Beasts, but later became known as Nadia's Theme.less «

• John Driscoll (ex-Coop, GL) joins as Phillip Chancellor IV!

  Ex-"Guiding Light" star John Driscoll has been cast in the role of Phillip Chancellor IV, the son of Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) and Phillip Chancellor III (Thom Bierdz). The character was last seen in 2001 after his mother had left Genoa City, and has since been in the army. Driscoll first airs May 24.

  Started in 1973 it was 30 minutes until 1980 where it turned to 60 minutes. Central time it goes on at 4:00 p.m., Eastern 12:30 p.m. and Western at 11:00 a.m. It centers around the Newmans, Abbotts, Winters and Chancellors. It is the # 1 daytime soap. hide « show »

  Ok right now I think the writers are being lazy. Really no new storylines and lately bringing back stuff that happened 20 ago. Tired of the same relationships, I mean Nick and Sharon and Jack and Phyllis and visa versa. It's like what the h. They should put Nick with Amber or something different. He's so boring with Sharon and Phyllis. Anyway I think I'm going to stop saying negative things about the show and say some positive things about the show I'm been watching this since 1998. I was 8 then and now I'm 19 and let me just say I liked it better back then. My favorite characters are Ashley, Nick, Amber, Kevin, Adam, Victor, Cane, Jill, Billy, and Neil. But I like everyone pretty much.

  Great show. I think that hey need to add a new character. This character should be the son of Victor and Jill. This way he would have connections to every company in Genoa City. Jill and Victor gave him up for adoption, and only Lauren knows about it. While she's at the hospital, she finds the guy and asks him who he is. He could be around the ages of 20-30. He would be a good guy, but isn't afraid to fight. He would try to be a friend to all of his family,yet he would be closer to the Chancelors, because Victor in the begining tries to pay him to leave, so know one finds out about him and Jill, and he would have a job in Criminal Justice. What do you think.

  Arrival of Adam on The Young and The Restless. hide « show »

  I've been watching The Young and The Restless for years. Lately, the show has come to be an irritating one, more so since the arrival of Adam in the show. I think his character is not very good and he is a pompous ass. When are you going to kill him or make him disappear? Every time the show stories seem to pick up, you do something irritating like this. If the show continues that way, you're going to count one less viewer from this show. I've been tempted to stop watching the show for weeks but with Today's episode, you can count on it. Too bad, I used to really enjoy your show. Now, for me, it's just going downhill and gives me creepy feelings. Not enjoyable anymore !!!

  I used to love this show. I have watched it for over 30 years. But I can't stomach it anymore. The lack of consistancy with character history. The lack of respect for the intelligence of the viewing audience. The disrepect for the wants of the fans of this show. The writing that is off the wall and one sided for characters to the point that the viewer can easily tell who are the favorites and we are not. And the beating these writers are doing to their black characters is over the top. Especially what is now happening to Lily (in her relationship to Cane) is so disrespectful to this character that was born on the show and her family ties to members of the show that it is beyond me. I have lost all respect for Y&R in just in the last three months. I now can't even watch this show. It's too bad because it was great in it's time now it's just plain garbage.

  The Chloe/Lily/Cane storyline hide « show »

  This story line is very disappointing. This B---- Chloe is a total waste of ink and paper. and Lily is such a wuss no real black woman acts like that. Who writes this ish. Cane is a pansy, how come no one is this story line has any balls?? I have stopped watching for a while because the black folk on this show are soooo unreal. Maybe you need to talk to some black folks to get some input. I'm just saying... Can't you at least have one believable black character. Drucilla was semi real but since she left the whole Winters clan has become sooo weak and jellybacked. It is a wonder they can even stand up on their own.
